At least 153 passengers were rescued from a passenger-cargo vessel that ran aground off Basilan last Sunday, the Philippine Coast Guard said Thursday.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Coast Guard said the grounding of the "MV Jadestar Legacy" occurred off Fuego-Fuego Beach in Isabela City.

Citing initial findings, it said the 225.45-gross ton "MV Jadestar Legacy," owned by Ibnerizam Shipping Lines Inc. and skippered by Captain Jesus Delos Santos, was heading to Zamboanga City Pier from Isabela City when it ran aground.

Teams from the Coast Guard Zamboanga and Isabela stations deployed Coast Guard crafts DF-314 and DF-316 to conduct rescue operations.

Search-and-rescue operatives transferred the passengers of the vessel and brought them to the nearest shoreline.

On the other hand, the vessel was eventually towed by its sister ship, "MV Prince Glory," back to Zamboanga City Port.
