Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has introduced a new project, dubbed “Drive Green” – a package of low-carbon technologies to be installed on a new 7,500 unit car carrier.

The carrier, being constructed for Japan Marine United, will feature the world’s first NOx generation suppression device attached to its main engine, which uses a combination of exhaust gas recirculation and Kawasaki Heavy  Industries’ (KHI) water emulsion fuel. Also included will be a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Mitsubishi Kakoki Kaisha (MKK) scrubber, to reduce SOx emissions.

Meanwhile other technologies including energy-saving LED lighting and solar power generation. K Line expects to be able to reduce its emissions by 25% compared to conventionally-designed car carriers.
