The incident occurred around 20 nautical miles from Punta, Europe, when the vessel SOUTHERN PUMA, headed from Antwerp to Bilbao, collided with the LOUISA BOLTEN, headed from Avonmouth to Aliaga.

Following the accident, the SOUTHERN PUMA reported to the Salvamento Maritimo that it had sustained damage on one side of its hull. The other vessel, LOUISA BOLTEN, was reported to have suffered damage to its bow. However, both vessels were capable of navigating, and no injuries to crewmembers on either vessel were reported.

The Salvamento Maritimo dispatched a helicopter, a plane, and the search and rescue vessels Luz De Mar, Salvamar Atria, Salvamar Salvamento. The helicopter spotted a stain originating from the SOUTHERN PUMA.

The leak was later identified to be around 600 metric tons of paraffin, which was being transported aboard the SOUTHERN PUMA. The Maritime Captaincy of Algeciras has been asked to identify the impact on the environment and assess the damage from such a leak.
