Louis Dreyfus Armateurs construirá buques de bajas emisiones

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) ha sido seleccionada por Airbus para renovar toda su flota de buques fletados que transportan subconjuntos de aviones entre instalaciones de producción en Europa y Estados Unidos con tres modernos buques roll-on/roll-off de bajas emisiones, respaldados por propulsión asistida por el viento.

IEn particular, Airbus ha encargado a LDA la construcción, propiedad y operación de estos nuevos buques altamente eficientes que entrarán en servicio a partir de 2026.

Se espera que la nueva flota reduzca las emisiones medias anuales de CO2 transatlánticas de 68.000 a 33.000 toneladas para 2030. Esto contribuirá al compromiso de Airbus de reducir sus emisiones industriales totales hasta en un 63% para finales de la década,

(www.MaritimeCyprus.com) The Suez Canal Authority has announced an increase to Normal Transit dues, effective from 15 January 2024:

a) Increasing the normal Suez Canal transit dues by 15% for the following vessel types: (Crude Oil Tankers - Petroleum Product Tankers - Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Carriers - Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Carriers - Chemical tankers and other liquid bulk tankers - Containerships - Vehicles Carriers - Cruise Ships - Special Floating Units)

b) Increasing the normal Suez Canal transit dues by 5% for the following vessel types: (Dry Bulk Vessels - General Cargo Vessels - Roll-On/Roll-Off (RO/RO) Vessels - Other Vessels)

c) Containerships directly coming from ports from “North-West Europe” and directly heading to ports at the “Far East” are

The world merchant fleet

It's worth recalling that the world merchant fleet is made up of different types of vessels, which can be grouped into the following categories: general cargo ships, container ships, barge carriers, bulk carriers, oil tankers and chemical tankers.

Today, sea freight is the main means of transporting raw materials (oil, coal, grain, etc.) over very long distances.

Today, sea freight accounts for 90% of international merchandise trade. At the end of March 2022, more than 57 000 merchant ships had been sailing around the world, over 50% of them carrying oil and related products.

Climate Week NYC is in full force, so let's explore one of the hardest-to-abate areas of our economy — maritime shipping.

DNV recently released its annual Maritime Forecast to 2050 report, looking at the shipping market’s decarbonization journey in 2023. I dove into this 74-page report and identified four key findings.

To get further insight into the report’s findings, I spoke with Antony DSouza, regional president of maritime at DNV. So without further ado, let’s set sail.

1. There’s more to decarbonization than the fuel  

Much of the report discusses how the maritime industry’s pathway to decarbonization is intrinsically driven by regulations.
