Les données publiées de la flotte de commerce sous pavillon français sont relatives aux navires d'une jauge brute supérieure à 100 ums affectés au transport de passagers ou de marchandises au long cours ou au cabotage. Ne sont donc pas pris en compte la flotte auxiliaire, comprenant tous les navires de commerce n'étant pas destinés au transport de charge, ni la flotte contrôlée, c'est à dire de propriété majoritaire par un armateur français mais sous pavillon étranger.

Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. to Build Two CO2 Carriers for Norwegian Northern Lights Project

Chinese shipbuilder Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. has won a contract to build two CO2 carriers for Northern Lights, a Norwegian carbon capture and storage project.

Under the contract awarded by the Northern Lights JV, owned equally by Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies, the Chinese shipbuilder will build two CO2 carriers, each with a cargo size of 7,500 m3 and a length of 130 meters.

The two vessels, designed to transport liquid CO2 with purpose-built pressurized cargo tanks, are expected to be ready for delivery by mid-2024. 

The primary fuel for the ships will be LNG, keeping emissions low. Other innovative technologies, such as a wind-assisted propulsion system and air lubrication will be installed to reduce carbon intensity by around 34% compared

Seafarers are vital to all of us. They travel the globe with everything we need, from bananas, oil, gas and building materials to cloth, grain and frozen meat. They are also an invisible labour force. What goes on at sea is often out of sight of regulators. This allows rogue ship owners to get away with abusing seafarers' rights without detection.

 

 

The ITF has a powerful influence on the wages and conditions of seafarers working on ships flying flags of convenience (FOCs).

 

What are flags of convenience?

 

A flag of convenience ship is one that flies the flag of a country other than the country of ownership. For workers onboard, this can mean:

Maersk posts $3.7 billion profit in Q2 2021, expands logistics service

Danish shipping and logistics giant A.P. Moller – Maersk has continued to deliver strong growth and profitability with profit going up to $3.7 billion in the second quarter of 2021.

Revenue was up almost 60% to $14.2 billion compared to the same quarter last year and EBIT amounted to $4.1 billion, which is up more than five times.

With a net profit of $3.7 billion in the second quarter of 2021, the net result for the first half of 2021 went up to $6.5 billion, the company revealed in its financial report.
