Thirty-fourth regular session of the Assembly will approve 2026-2027 work programme and budget.

The IMO Assembly is open to all 176 Member States and three Associate Members. Observers from accredited organizations also attend.

 

The Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will meet for its 34th regular session from 24 November to 3 December 2025, to elect Members of the IMO Council and approve the Organization’s work programme and budget. 

The Assembly is the highest Governing Body of the IMO, consisting of all Member States. The Assembly session will be preceded by the 135th session of the IMO Council (19-21 November).

  1. La Dirección General de la Marina Mercante es el órgano competente para la ordenación general de la navegación marítima y de la flota civil española, en los términos establecidos en el texto refundido de la Ley de Puertos del Estado y de la Marina Mercante, aprobado por el Real Decreto Legislativo 2/2011, de 5 de septiembre, y en la Ley 14/2014, de 24 de julio, de Navegación Marítima, y le corresponden las siguientes funciones:

 

  1. La Dirección General de la Marina Mercante se estructura en los siguientes órganos con rango de subdirección general:
    • a) El control del tráfico marítimo y del despacho. El registro y abanderamiento de buques. Las instrucciones respecto del salvamento, los bienes naufragados y hundidos, y la prohibición de navegación por falta de aseguramiento de la responsabilidad civil

El Gobierno de España, a través del Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible, presenta su candidatura como miembro del Consejo de la Organización Marítima Internacional.

El sector marítimo y la OMI, como autoridad mundial reguladora del transporte marítimo internacional, se enfrentan a desafíos globales cada vez más complejos. Navegar, adaptarse y prosperar en este entorno requiere de cooperación, compromiso y coordinación.

España es un histórico y destacado miembro de la Organización Marítima Internacional, que ha apoyado activamente el trabajo y objetivos de la Organización desde nuestro ingreso en 1962. Desde 1973 formamos parte de su Consejo en sucesivos periodos y desde el año 2001 desempeñamos nuestras funciones como miembro del Consejo en la categoría B.
