Monzonís destaca la apuesta de la naviera Messina por el puerto de Castellón. El ‘Jolly Titanio’ aportará tráficos del norte de España a la línea de Oriente Medio

El mayor buque de carga rodada del mundo, el Jolly Titanio, se ha unido a la línea de Oriente Medio del puerto, que une Castellón y el Golfo de Arabia. Con la nave, que le ha supuesto una inversión de 75 millones de euros a la naviera Messina y es la primera de las cuatro gemelas que llegarán para formar parte de la línea, el puerto da un salto de calidad que todos los agentes esperan que le ayude a captar tráficos del norte de España para la línea.
El presidente de PortCastelló, Juan José Monzonís destacó la “apuesta definitiva” de Messina (la tercera naviera mundial) por el puerto provincial. Y el director de logística y desarrollo de negocio de Gimeno Marítimo (la empresa que consigna y capta los tráficos para la línea), José Vicente Torner, destacó que con el buque --de 240 metros de eslora y con capacidad para 3.900 contenedores-- y los tres que deben llegar antes del verano la línea “va a ser absolutamente líder para conectar con Suez, la Península Arábiga, los Emiratos Árabes e Irán”.
No en vano, Castellón es el único puerto del Mediterráneo español que conecta con “el único puerto iraní al que se puede llegar directamente desde España”, destacó Torner. Se espera así captar tráficos de “Zaragoza, Navarra y del País Vasco” para “los proyectos industriales” de esta zona del mundo, como los trenes, resaltó el manager de Messina en España, Federico Spinatto. Built by the Korean STX yard for the Italian shipping company Ignazio Messina
The world biggest ro-ro container vessel, the Jolly Titanio was today officially delivered by the Korean STX Offshore & Shipbuilding shipyard in Jinhae, to the Italian shipping company Ignazio Messina & C. The new vessel, that flies Italian flag, is starting its maiden voyage to Europe with a ro-ro cargo and is expected to start operating within the Messina regular liner services between Med ports and Red Sea and Middle Eastern destinations at the beginning of January 2015.
This vessel is the first of a new series of ro-ro containership that the Korean shipyard is being realizing for delivery by Mid 2015. These four vessels, named Jolly Titanio, Jolly Cobalto, Jolly Vanadio and Jolly Palladio, are part of the second stage of a major 500 millions Usd development plan that the Genoa based shipping company is currently undertaking.
The other four vessels have been already built by another Korean shipbuilder, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. and started operating at the beginning of 2012 within Messina Line’s services network.
The Jolly Titanio is 240 metres long by 37,50 wide; with a 3.900 teu and 6.350 metres of ro-ro cargo capacity, 21.5 knots speed. It is equipped with high-tech anti pollution system such as an innovative gas cleaning system able to operate both in navigation and in port.
This vessel obtained the Greenplus certification from the Italian Register, Rina.
The new ship, built by the Korean yard under the supervision of the Messina Technical office led by the chief engineer Enrico Allieri, is characterized by a great operational flexibility, granted by a total 11.5 metres draft and a ramp designed to allow boarding heavy lift cargo.
