Drydocks World has signed a contract with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co Ltd (ZPMC) for a 5,000-tonne capacity floating sheerleg crane
The company said acquisition of the new crane, which will have the largest capacity of any sheerleg crane in the region, which will help it meet growing demand for large-scale offshore projects.
Design, construction, testing and commissioning of the crane is expected to take approximately 24 months, with completion scheduled for Q2 2026.
Once operational, it will boost Drydocks World’s heavy-lifting capability, allowing it to meet the growing demand of large-scale projects, such as high-voltage offshore converter platforms for the offshore wind industry and FPSO topsides for the offshore oil and gas industry.
The crane will have a 160-m long A-frame, allowing heavy loads of up to 5,000 tonnes to be lifted 120 m above the water, and a 600-tonne fly jib that can extend its reach to 180 m. It will be able to accommodate up to 50 personnel offshore, reducing the need for support vessels.
Constructed from high-strength steel, the crane will also have advanced safety features and a sophisticated integrated control system for enhanced operational efficiency. An automatic ballasting system will ensure stability.
