MBR upgrade to help Queen Mary 2 cruise ship meet IMO requirements

One of the world’s major cruise ships, the Queen Mary 2, is being fitted with a Membrane BioReactor (MBR) wastewater treatment system to help meet International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements for ship pollution.
The contract was awarded by Cunard Line during the third quarter, 2014. The existing on-board system is now due for replacement and two Wärtsilä Hamworthy MBR 16 systems have been selected to maintain the ship’s high environmental standards.
The Wärtsilä Hamworthy MBR solutions are designed to facilitate the management and treatment of both ‘grey’ and ‘black’ wastewater, and to monitor discharges to the sea.

The RNLI announces new Lifeboat for Lytham St. Annes
The crew at Lytham St. Annes were jubilant this week when they received a letter from RNLI headquarters stating that they are to receive the charity's latest and most advanced class of all-weather lifeboat - the Shannon
The station received a letter from the RNLI's Director of Operations, George Rawlinson, stating that the Trustees of the RNLI have approved that the station should receive one of the new class of lifeboat - the Shannon.
The Shannon was developed by the RNLI and is the most agile in the charity's fleet being the very first to be propelled by water jets and not propellers.

Il ministro delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti Maurizio Lupi ha incontrato questa mattina a Londra il Segretario Generale dell'Imo (Organizzazione marittima internazionale) Koji Sekimizu, il quale ha elogiato l'Italia per la professionalità dimostrata nelle operazioni di soccorso dei migranti e nell'operazione Norman Atlantic.
Il ministro Lupi ha annunciato una lettera al segretario dell'Imo in vista dell'incontro internazionale e inter-agenzie delle Nazioni Unite sulla migrazioni via mare e sulle operazioni di soccorso del 4-5 marzo prossimo su due temi: la sicurezza della navigazione e la sicurezza delle operazione di salvataggio dei migranti.
Sul primo argomento (caso Norman Atlantic) si chiede il rafforzamento della normativa esistente in materia di controlli sulle navi traghetto per il trasporto di passeggeri e merci.

Many cruise passengers began asking us when the Insignia will sail again, even before the ship's burned-out engine room stopped smoldering.
Of course we don't know. The investigation into the fire is just beginning. Investigators from the Marshall Islands (the flag of the Oceania cruise ship) has just started. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) flew from Miami to St. Lucia to accompany the Marshall Islands investigators.
The ship will undoubtedly sail long before the official investigations are concluded. I doubt that the official reports will be ready for publication by the end of next

The first version was adopted in 1914, in response to the Titanic disaster, the second in 1929, the third in 1948, and the fourth in 1960. The 1974 version includes the tacit acceptance procedure - which provides that an amendment shall enter into force on a specified date unless, before that date, objections to the amendment are received from an agreed number of parties.
As a result, the 1974 Convention has been updated and amended on numerous occasions. The Convention in force today is
