La disponibilidad de combustibles limpios es un requisito previo para la transición energética del transporte marítimo.

La Plataforma de Combustibles Marítimos Limpios, que representa a armadores europeos y a proveedores de combustible, ha subrayado la necesidad de desarrollar una cadena europea de suministro de combustibles limpios para el transporte marítimo.

Según el informe Draghi, sólo para el transporte marítimo europeo serán necesarias unas inversiones anuales de 40.000 millones de euros hasta 2050. Por ello, apoyar las inversiones para fomentar la producción y disponibilidad de combustibles renovables y bajos en carbono es esencial para

VESSEL REVIEW | NCL Vestland – Methanol-fuelled containership for Norwegian coastal feeder routes

China’s Taizhou Sanfu Shipbuilding has delivered a new feeder container vessel to Norwegian operator MPC Container Ships (MPCC).

NCL Vestland is the first unit in a series of two containerships ordered by MPCC. The vessels are notable for being fitted with dual-fuel engines that can run on MGO or green methanol as a low-emission alternative.

 
 

NCL Vestland will be operated under a 15-year charter with Norwegian transport company North Sea Container Line (NCL). NCL Nordland, the second vessel in the series, is scheduled to be handed over to MPCC later in the first half of 2025. Both will sail under the Portuguese flag.

Entering 2025, the prospects for LNG as a marine fuel appear a bit brighter than the previous year thanks to an expanding demand. The global orderbook for this propulsion has found new buoyancy in 2024 after retrenching somewhat in 2023. DNV assessed the jump at 103 percent from the previous year for a total of 264 vessels. Some eight percent of the newbuilds on order opted for LNG propulsion, while alternative fuelled ships represented 50 percent of all new orders placed in 2024 according to Clarksons. NYK y Yara Clean Ammonia firmaron un contrato para el primer buque transportador de gas mediano alimentado con amoníaco (NYK)

Los esfuerzos para desarrollar la primera cadena de valor del amoníaco han dado un paso más con la firma del primer contrato de fletamento de un buque de transporte de gas mediano alimentado con amoníaco por parte de la japonesa NYK Line y Yara Clean Ammonia. NYK ordenó la construcción del buque en 2023 como siguiente paso de un proyecto iniciado en 2021 como parte del Fondo de Proyectos de Innovación Verde de la Organización de Desarrollo de Nuevas Energías e Industriales (NEDO) de Japón.
