Concłuyó la huelga más larga de la marina mercante española

Con la firma del convenio colectivo entre los dieciocho tripulantes del Carmen III y la compañía propietaria finalizó ayer una huelga que ha paralizado el buque en el puerto de Bilbao por espacio de 31 días, caso insólito en la historia de la marina mercante española. Recién firmado el pacto, los tripulantes procedieron a vaciar las bodegas para hacerse a la mar inmediatamente, no sin antes celebrar a bordo el final feliz de un conflicto que hace tan sólo unos meses hubiera sido calificado de motín y juzgado por la vía militar. Three vessels were hit by projectiles in and near the Strait of Hormuz, including a Thai-flagged bulk carrier that caught fire after an apparent strike, according to Reuters on March 11.

The incidents brought the number of ships attacked in the area since the Iran conflict began on February 28 to at least 14.

Precious Shipping stated its Thailand-flagged vessel, Mayuree Naree, was hit by two projectiles of unknown origin while transiting the strait. The strike caused a fire and damaged the engine room.

MOL takes delivery of LNG dual-fuel car carrier

Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of a new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) built locally by Tadotsu Shipyard, a subsidiary of the Imabari Shipbuilding Group.

The NK-classed, Liberian-flagged Lazulite Ace is notable for its LNG dual-fuel propulsion system, which was selected by MOL for its ability to generate significantly reduced emissions of CO2 (25 to 30 per cent), NOx (85 per cent), and SOx (98 per cent) compared to engines powered by conventional fuel oil.

The PCTC belongs to a new series of ships with environment-friendly features. These ships are to be delivered by Imabari Shipbuilding and other local yards as part of MOL’s fleet upgrade program, the objective of which is to introduce around 90 locally-built vessels powered by
