Estonia's defense and foreign ministers said the situaton in the Baltic Sea has become more tense in recent years. Maritime law can hinder sabbotage investigations, but private companies also need to monitor and fix their infastructure, they said.

The Chinese ship Yi Peng 3, suspected of damaging underwater communication cables in the Baltic Sea, left the Danish strait last week. Before its departure, Sweden, Germany, Finland, and Denmark were allowed to inspect the Chinese-flagged vessel, but Swedish authorities reported that permission was denied for Swedish prosecutor Henrik Söderman to board.

On Monday, Sweden's foreign minister criticized China for not allowing its lead investigator on the ship.

La sentencia española del Prestige podrá ser ejecutada contra el asegurador británico

El pasado 20 de junio de 2022 el Tribunal de Justicia de la Unión Europea dictó su sentencia en el asunto C-700/20, London Steam-Ship Owners’ Mutual Insurance Association Limited y Reino de España, más tristemente conocido como el asunto del Prestige.

A raíz del naufragio del petrolero Prestige en noviembre de 2002, que provocó una tragedia medioambiental en las costas españolas y francesas, se iniciaron en España acciones penales y civiles contra el capitán y los propietarios del Prestige, así como contra el asegurador London Club.

In late September, the Yomiuri Shimbun (Japan’s largest circulation newspaper) reported that the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyer Sazanami (JS Sazanami, DD-113) had navigated north to south through the Taiwan Strait, located between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. The vessel had transited the Taiwan Strait en route to joint multinational training exercises with the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand in the South China Sea, in what was the first instance of a JMSDF destroyer traveling through the Taiwan Strait. According to the article, the transit of the Sazanami through the Taiwan Strait was based on orders from then-Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.

España ha perdido en los tribunales británicos su recurso para cobrar 855 milones a la aseguradora del ‘Prestige’, en el marco de los pasos judiciales dados tras la catástrofe marítima con el hundimiento del petrolero el 19 de noviembre de 2002.

Esto se produce después de que el Tribunal de Apelación de Londres rechazase el recurso planteado por España para que se ejecutase en Inglaterra la sentencia española por la que se obligaba a la aseguradora a abonar la factura de los daños en base al seguro.
