Mechanical problem on Maersk vessel kicks back arrival date for Nike shoes and other sought-after consumer products

Nike and other major U.S. importers just got another kick in the shins. The arrival of the Maersk Eureka at the Port of Long Beach, California, will be delayed by about three weeks because of a mechanical problem at sea.

Collision between Liquefied Gas Carrier GenesisRiver and Voyager Tow

 Executive Summary

On May 10, 2019, at 1516, the 754-foot-long, 122-foot-wide liquefied gas carrier Genesis River collided with a 297-foot-long tank barge being pushed ahead by the 69-foot-long towing vessel Voyager. As a result of the collision, two cargo tanks in the barge were breached, spilling petrochemical cargo into the waterway, and a second barge in the Voyager tow capsized.

El encallamiento del carguero Ever Given provocó este martes el bloqueo del Canal de Suez, una de las rutas marítimas más transitadas del mundo.

Con 400 metros de largo y 60 metros de ancho, quedó encallado alrededor de las 7:40 de la mañana (05:40 GMT), según medios locales, por una falla técnica.

Las autoridades del canal tuvieron que desplegar numerosos remolcadores para tratar de despejar la ruta, así como excavadoras para retirar tierra y abrir paso, y este miércoles siguen trabajando en ello.

Mega container ship hard aground in Suez Canal UPDATES

Ultra Large Container Vessel EVER GIVEN ran aground in Suez Canal north of Suez, at around 0600 UTC Mar 23, shortly after entering Canal in northbound convoy. As of 1440 UTC Mar 23, the giant ship was still aground with tugs attempting to refloat her. Traffic reportedly, is blocked in both directions. EVER GIVEN is en route from Yantian China to Rotterdam.

Mar 24 0415 UTC UPDATE: Still aground, traffic blocked, Canal authorities hope the ship will be refloated during the day Mar 24.
